Archer Park Station and Steam Tram Museum

The museum covers the development and history of rail-based transportation in the major central Queensland town of Rockhampton and is set in the 100 year-old Archer Park rail station on Denison Street on the city's southside. The principle attraction at the museum is the fully restored Purrey Steam Tram which still operates each weekend. The station also features the revolutionary Digital Soundscape system that provides audio interpretation for the entire site and works in conjunction with conventional text and object-based exhibitions to create a unique visitor experience.

Collections

. The museum contains several small object-based exhibitions and a number of larger objects associated with the railways that are housed outside the station buildings, under the cover of the platform roof. These objects have been collected from a variety of sources including private collectors, former rail workers, the Capricorn Heritage Rail Association and Queensland Rail.
