Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery at Inveresk
The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery Inveresk site was once the Launceston Railway Workshops. The development of the Launceston Railway Workshops is a story of transformation - they now house a range of exhibitions relating to history and art including one which interprets the history of the workshop site. See separate Guide listings for the Museum site at Royal Park, the Community History Centre and the Launceston Planetarium.
The basis of the collections of the QVMAG was formed by the Launceston Mechanics Institute which opened in 1842. Since then the collections have continued to grow and today are of national significance. They span a wide range of disciplines from Fine Art, History, Decorative Arts and Design to Zoology, Physical Sciences and Geology.
