Golden Memories Museum (Millthorpe)
The museum houses the work of the Millthorpe and District Historical Society, which has spent forty five years collecting, conserving and displaying district records, artefacts, farm equipment, family history and photographs and domestic appliances.
The Society provides Family History research and copies of portraits and over 700 local photographs.
They promote local history through special events, host family reunions, provide access for school excursions and coach tours, and undertake fund-raising ventures for capital improvements to the museum property.
The history of the district is illustrated with an eclectic collection of domestic and social objects, and significant Wiradjuri objects and a timeline of gold mining at Cadia Valley. We're surrounded by important sites of gold exploration in NSW and hold some significant items relating to John Lister who is buried in Milthorpe and other gold related objects from the nearby Cadia Mine site. Cadia operates still and has been mined for over a hundred years.
There's also a working blacksmith shop which you can see in action on the Museum's special demonstration days. The Society promotes local history through special events, hosts family reunions, provides access for school excursions and coach tours, and undertakes fund-raising ventures for capital improvements to the museum property.
