Monto Light Horse Support Group

Monto Light Horse Support Group was formed to collect, collate and preserve the cultural heritage of the Light Horse, where Monto's Troops in WWII numbered 138 men. The group hosts the Annual Central Queensland Australian Light Horse Re-Enactment & Reunion in Oct/Nov, and has created the permanent display of Light Horse within the Monto Museum Reserve, and in the Cultural & Historical Complex. A dedication service was held to commemorate the Light Horse, and a plaque erected in 2006.

The Monto Light Horse Collection showcases many of the items used in World War II, with some earlier items, including uniforms, saddlery, arms, and assorted historical items, as well as a comprehensive photographic collection depicting the lives and times of the Australian Light Horse. The collection is added to regularly, and bequeaths and donations are welcomed to extend the display for future visitors.
