Mount Morgan Historical Museum Inc

Mt Morgan is approximately 38k south of Rockhampton Qld. The original name for the area was Ironstone Mountain. The collection is housed in a large, vinyl-clad building, erected in 1895 is of good appearance. The floor area is partitioned off into alcoves, each displaying memorabilia of a similar nature eg. Mining alcoves, Kitchen alcove etc. Further memorabilia is housed in the museum yard. There is ample parking adjacent to museum.

Our collection includes over 1,000 photographs with descriptive text of the mine site and people who worked there. We also have the story of how the area came into being and the connection with the Walter & Elisa Hall Institute which is in Melbourne. We have Mt Morgans' first fire engine and old Buick Mt Morgan Hearse. Among the wonders of the past we have kitchen equipment and many other things of historical interest. Visitors to our museum say how very interesting it has been for them and also how surprised they are at our collection and it is considered to be one of the best collections outside the Capital City.
